Thank you for your interest in learning more about Calvary Chapel Saddletowne. Allow me to tell some of the backstory relevant to the church’s launch:
Back in 2007 I, Mark, began attending Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel and I was blown away by the teaching of the Word of God. I had a sense of the Lord leading me into pastoral ministry. One of the pastors, Colin Schlegel, came up to meet me at my home in NE Calgary. We walked in Prairie Winds Park and he looked at me and said, “Look around you, THIS is the mission field”. I’ve carried a burden for church-planting in NE Calgary ever since.
Since then, I received a theology degree from Calvary Chapel Bible College, completing my studies in California and in Israel. Next, I spent time visiting with believers in many places across South Asia. Then, the Lord sent me out to assist a church plant in Regina and to learn in a hands-on way the Calvary Chapel style of starting churches. I met my beautiful wife Rose there, and we were married in 2020. Now, the Lord has graciously given a vision for a new Calvary Chapel church located in the north end of NE Calgary, called Calvary Chapel Saddletowne. His hand has been very clear, and we are eager to see what He has in mind.
The burden I carry for the NE is that it needs excellent Bible-teaching and shepherding, following the examples available at Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel and throughout the Calvary Chapel Association. Alberta has a strong legacy of Christian vibrancy, and we want to pick up that baton and offer it to anyone from anywhere who has come to Calgary and come to Jesus.
Please take a moment to pray for the work of God in hearts and minds in this corner of the city. The Lord has great things in mind! You can reach me at any time at mark@ccsaddletowne.org.
